We are here for you!

Now that your electric bike is ready to ride, we’re so excited to see you log many happy miles! But don’t forget, eBikes do require service from time to time. Within the first 60 days or 200 miles (or 100 miles on cargo bikes), we recommend making an appointment for your first tune-up (free of charge) at one of our locations: Here

ASSEMBLY FAQ

Once you receive your eBike, if you see a few miles on your display that’s a good thing. Know that we’ve thoroughly tested it on the stand, as well as taken it on multiple test rides ourselves. Those are miles ridden to ensure your safety, that your eBike will perform as expected, and that you’re given a quality riding experience from the get-go.

Tools needed for assembly by Brand

We recommend acquiring a Topeak ratchet rocket (which includes 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, and 6mm Allen keys, and more) as a all purpose portable tool that you can assemble your bike with mostly and perform emergancy service roadside.

For general maintanance and service it is a good idea to have a set of Metric Allen keys, Torx bits, and a Metric wrench set. All of these tools can be purchased at your local hardware store or online. We Recomend Park Tools which are the premiere tool maker for Bicycles, but most any brand will do.

How do I install the pedals?

First things first, find the “R” and “L” located on each of the pedal’s spindles and place each pedal on the corresponding side of your eBike. Apply a small amount of bike grease to the threads on each spindle.

Next, insert each pedal straight into the hole on each crank arm, rotating the spindle until the pedal fits into place. Next, take your 6mm Allan key or 15mm pedal wrench and tighten each pedal.

IMPORTANT: The Right pedal will screw in and tighten just like normal, but the Left pedal is a little different. The Left pedal has a left-hand thread, meaning to tighten it you turn it counter-clockwise. The reason for this? So your pedal doesn’t come loose while you’re riding.

How do I put on my handlebars?

Depending on which bike you’ve purchased, generally you’ll need to loosen one, or possibly two, stem bolts before you can move your handlebars into place. Once you have your handlebars set how you’d like, go ahead and tighten those stem bolts, but so tight that you run the risk of stripping them.

Generally stem bolts require a 4 to 5mm Allan key, while some Riese & Muller models require a T-25 torx key.

When do I need to service my eBike?

Whether you’re coming in for your first free tune-up (100-200 miles) or a full service check-up (after 2,000 miles), at Propel, we’ve got you covered. Check out our Service Page for more information on when to bring your eBike in.

If I don’t live near a Propel store, how do I choose a shop to work with?

More often than not, our selection of eBikes require the same type of maintenance as a regular bike. If you’re unsure how to select a shop to work with, we recommend visiting a Trek dealer for any Bosch-related issues as well as eBike maintenance. The mechanics there are well-versed with the Bosch eBike System.

Or, you can use this handy map to search for the closest Bosch eBike dealer.

But first, give us a call! Depending on your comfort level, we can walk you through any problems or adjustments over the phone or through Facetime. Many of our customers are remote, and we have processes in place to support you, no matter where you live. Check out our Support page for more information, and to make an appointment.
