Inspect box for shipping damage
Unbox bike, record serial # & key #
Inspect bike and accessories for shipping damage
Check customer order and confirm all additional items are present
Grease & install seatpost, if applicable
Install handlebars & stem to fork tube, if applicable
Check bolt torque on all handlebar and stem fasteners, stem should not move side to side when gripping the front wheel with your knees and trying to move the stem
Check bolt torque on all levers and controls mounted to the handlebars
Adjust brake levers and shifters 45 degrees to the ground
Adjust brake levers for 1 or 2 finger braking (should not be set in a way that requires the use of 3 or 4 fingers to brake, this is a safety concern)
Check brake lever travel and adjust lever travel or bleed brake as needed. The brakes should make firm contact at â…“ of the way through the travel of the lever
Check bolt torque on grips for safety
Adjust headset, grease assembly if necessary
For cargo bikes, check control arm for fastener torque and steering linkage play, adjust if necessary
Check hubs, adjust if needed
Check wheel trueness, true if needed and relieve stress on spokes
Install wheels in frame, check bolt torque on axles if applicable
Check brake alignment, adjust if needed
Check bolt torque on cranks
Install pedals, check bolt torque on pedals
Check derailleur alignment (or hub shifting interface)
Check and set derailleur limits (or hub shifting interface)
Check and set derailleur cable tension (or hub shift cable(s) tension)
Inspect chain for stiff links or dried lubricant. If lubricant has evaporated, oil chain lightly
If belt-equipped, check belt tension and alignment
Check seatpost & saddle for bolt torque
Check dropper post lever for bolt torque and check dropper cable for proper function. Adjust cable tension as needed
Check drive unit mounting fasteners for bolt torque
Check all fasteners for bolt torque, including fenders, bottle cages, racks, accessories, etc.
Check all functions of the electrical system are working (speed sensor & speedometer, lights, horn, etc.
Run system diagnostics, save report and send a copy to customer. If any error codes are present, troubleshoot and resolve before sending to customer.
Check suspension for air pressure/coil preload and set for customer’s weight
Test ride bike
Follow manufacturer’s recommendations for bedding in brakes
Shift through the whole range of gears, making sure it hits all indexed shifts without trouble. Adjust shift cable tension as needed
If the chain drops off the inside or outside of the cassette, adjust the limits before adjusting the cable tension again and try again
Test the steering by riding no hands, or one hand, and by taking a few corners. Steering should not feel tight or loose. Steering should feel smooth and predictable with no binding or knocking in the headset assembly
Give the bike a shake test by picking it up and dropping it on it’s wheels, or by hopping a small curb or rolling over a pothole. Just one or two medium impacts should be enough to simulate the customer’s first ride on the bike, so that we can catch any break-in issues before they arise.
Check headset and hubs for bearing play, and adjust as needed
Check wheels for any unwinding of spokes, and true as needed
Check bolt torque on touch points (most important bolted connections on the bike): Stem fasteners, Handlebar fasteners, Grip and brake lever fasteners, Axles (whether QR, thru axle or nutted), Crank fasteners, Pedals, Saddle fasteners, Seatpost fasteners
Check bolt torque for any other fasteners that may have loosened during the course of the test ride, including fasteners for accessories and fenders, racks, etc.
Take a moment to make sure all components, accessories and systems on the bike are checked over and good to go
Give the bike a quick wipe & polish
Prepare bike for pickup or shipping with all necessary paperwork and accessories, add-on’s, backorders, etc.
